Ribbons
TTR (Thermal Transfer Ribbons), or simply ribbons, are wax, resin and wax/resin coated plastic films, used for printing barcodes and other information in thermal printers.
The most suitable model to use depends on the purpose intended:
• Wax-based ribbons are the best alternative for identification solutions not requiring high resistance;
• Resin-based ribbons are indicated for products subject to scratching or abrasion, which identification should remain for longer periods, and in case of considerable temperature variations.
• Wax/resin ribbons are indicated for solutions requiring good resistance.
Final print quality:
The higher or lower quality of the ribbon in itself will not determine the final print quality, but a set of variables such as the surface on which print will be made, the type of printer used, and the purpose of the identification being printed.
Incorrect use:
Using the incorrect ribbon will cause problems to the final print quality, and to the printer’s operations, increasing equipment maintenance expenses, due to continuous replacements of the printing thermal head.
Points to be considered:
In order to evaluate if ribbon is suitable for the purpose intended, you have to verify if you can work on the printhead at lower temperatures and higher speeds. That’s the ideal performance condition.
RR wax, resin and wax/resin thermal transfer ribbons are manufactured at RR Papéis, an industrial unit of Grupo RR located in Itaquaquecetuba – SP.
RR ribbons can be used on Zebra, Datamax, Eltron, Argox, Intermec, Avery, Sato, Tec Toshiba, Printronix, and other printers.
