Basic components
Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) Systems have been developed to protect merchandise against theft. An EAS system has three basic components:
1. Labels, tags and electronic sensors that are attached to merchandise;
2. Deactivators and detachers used at the point of sales to automatically deactivate labels and tags, and detach tags of items purchased; and
3. Detectors that create a surveillance zone at exit or checkout aisles.
System’s operation principles:
• A label or hard tag or sensor is attached to the product;
• Deactivation or removal of label occurs as items are purchased
(checkout or cash register);
• If a product with an activate label or hard tag is carried past the detection system, the alarm sounds
